Using an electronic bird repeller such as the Balcony Guard, Broadband Pro, Bird Xpeller Pro Or Yard Sentinel can be highly effective, ridding you of your pest bird problem, but how do we get the highest and best use out of them ?
See our top tips below:
1. CLEAN UP WITH BLEACH OR HOSPITAL GRADE DETERRENT
Pest birds love the smell of their own mess. They associate the smell with home and feeling safe. Disrupting this sense of smell has been proven to disrupt their roosting and nesting habit.
2. LINE OF SIGHT FOR ULTRASONICS
Find out the range of the unit and/or speaker and ensure you have enough coverage for the area you are trying to protect.
Ultrasonics do not penetrate solid objects or turn corners making line of sight paramount.
3. CHANGE FREQUENCY OR SONIC SOUNDS
Whether your unit is ultrasonic or sonic, sounds and frequencies need to be changed regularly to avoid birds becoming accustomed to them.
4. PAIR YOUR DEVICE
Pairing your device with a deterrent which attacks a different sense is beneficial. An example of this is using a sound device with a visual scare with movement such as 3 pack Scare Balloons or Prowler Owl is often a powerful combination.
5. GIVE IT TIME
Chances are the birds have been active for a long while. Keep constant pressure on them and keep your unit running if possible 24 hours a day for the first 2 weeks.
Birds seek out a new place to go when their territory has been disrupted prior to moving on completely so establishing a new habit often takes time.
Deterring pest birds is definitely possible even with the most stubborn birds.
Using the above tips will help you achieve a cleaner, healthier and bird damage free environment so it’s well worth the effort!
