If you are living in Australia, boating season tends to be year round.
When birds are migrating, they not only go to buildings and trees, they also find boats are a great landing spot. The reason for this is that there are many high points that they can perch on.
Some species like the seagull can be pest birds to your boat all year round.
If you’ve never had bird control measures on your boat, hopefully you are fortunate enough for it to not turn in to a disaster zone as birds can do this to a boat practically overnight. Their droppings are very acidic and over time will eat through the paint, wood and canvas and often destroy the surfaces too.
If you have started seeing droppings it’s not I too late. The first thing you need to do is wash your boat down. You really need to use a product that will disinfect and deodorise it as well because birds are very comfortable in the smell of their own crap!
Make sure you do not inhale any dust particles from the droppings as this is the way disease is spread from birds to humans.
Once your boat is clean install your bird scarers. There are lots of great options for Bird Scarers under our Marine tab of our website which suit different applications and budgets.
As always however, we strongly recommend you use a combination of products which will attack 2 or more of the birds senses eg visual, sound and a physical barrier.
Unless you are lucky enough to be taking your boat out daily, then a good bird deterring strategy is a must.
Happy clean boating!
