We had guests over for dinner recently. They had just arrived from Canada and we were discussing our business and proudly showed how effective our products were to repel Mynah birds from the area.
Our guests couldn’t believe that we would want to repel such a beautiful and expensive bird. ” Canadians and Americans keep these birds as pets and pay up to $1000 for these birds” our guest said.
We carried on eating and drinking and laughed at how absurd this seemed, not even giving it another thought as we thought our friend was possibly joking or at least highly exaggerating!
So tonight I decided to have a look for myself and see if in fact people of North America did keep Common Mynah Birds ( otherwise known as Indian Mynah birds) as pets and if so what are they worth in the market?
The results of my research shocked me!
They really are a very loved and expensive pet on that side of the world!
They are often trained to sing and are hand fed and commonly described as cute, playful, exotic and tame.
Here are some snapshots of some of the advertisements on a bird sale site. Go figure!
