We have many calls here at Bird Control Australia from people with bird problems needing advice on how to deter birds from nesting and roosting under and around their solar panels. The solution is likely to be much easier and cheaper than you think or than you been quoted in the past.
Pigeons love to nest under the panels as it is nice and warm and their eggs hatch faster.
Seagulls love to hang out on top of a warm roof too but do not make nests under the panels, instead they make a huge mess with their bird faeces and can be extremely loud.
Bird droppings become hard shadows on the Solar Panels reducing their efficiency and nesting underneath also causes corrosion to the wiring.
For pigeons or any birds nesting under the solar panels, our KEEP ‘EM OUT solar mesh kit together with ultrasonics is a great way to block them out and deter them.
The kit contains a roll of 30 meters of mesh and 60 clips for fastening down the mesh. You can do it yourself, there are lots of great YouTube videos showing how you can apply the mesh, or you can hire a handyman, pest control person or roofer to do the job. The kit also contains very easy to follow instructions.
We even sell the clips on their own, so if you are using an alternative mesh, you can just purchase the clips from us and choose from nylon or stainless steel.
The Solar mesh will block out access whilst the Ultrasonics annoy the birds whilst the are on the roof.
For birds that are not nesting under the panels and are just hanging out for the nice, cosy environment, a Sonic or Ultrasonic option together with some Flock Reflectors or Whirlybirds is a powerful combination. The sound will annoy and scare them whilst the Flock Reflectors or Whirlybirds will spin and flash light in their eyes making them feel both unsafe and uncomfortable.
Remember cleaning up is an imperative part of the process to bird control!
