How do BCA’s bird and pest control products frighten birds but not pets?
We get daily emails and phone calls from concerned pet lovers with bird or possum issues who are worried about using our humane, eco friendly products in the event they may harm or scare their pet dog or cat.
To begin with, ultrasonics only work in direct line of sight and do not penetrate solid objects or turn corners. Therefore our ultrasonic products (eg Balcony Guard or Yard Sentinel) are usually installed up high where birds congregate or roost.
Sometimes they are installed low in areas shared with pets. Whilst your pet may initially hear it, they feel safe in their environment and are not bothered by it.
Wild animals, or unwelcome animals are on high alert and associate the sound with it being an unsafe place to be.
Our sonic bird scarers like the Broadband Pro or Bird Xpeller Pro play sounds of bird distress calls and predator calls. These sounds are specific to scaring away unwelcome birds only.
Although their range is much wider than that of the ultrasonics, other animals are not frightened by them as to them it just sounds like natural bird chirping sounds. This is the case with humans as well.
None of our products harm people or animals, they work on either scaring or annoying them instead so that they move on.
